Five Warning Lights It’ll Cost You to Ignore

Warning lights are there to help you, not to scare you. But so many car owners find themselves ignoring warning lights rather than finding out what’s going on. Allman’s Automotive doesn’t want you to make that mistake.

TPMS Light

The TPMS light is there to let you know that your car’s tires are either low on air, flat, or otherwise need attention. Relying just on the TPMS light to keep tabs on the air pressure in your tires is not a great plan, but if you do see the light, don’t ignore it. Your car’s tires need the right amount of air in order to function properly.

Battery Light

Without power, your car isn’t doing much. That’s why if you see the battery light turn on, you have a problem either in the battery or the electrical system. You could also have problems with both. The big concern with ignoring a battery light is that if you wait even a little too long, the battery may die and strand you.

Brake Light

Without your car’s brakes, bad stuff is bound to happen. Lots of cars use a combination of different messages along with the brake light ranging from the parking brake being engaged to there being a problem somewhere in the brake system. If you see this light turn on while the car is in motion, it’s vital to pull over and get the brakes checked.

Temperature Light

The temperature warning light is one that you definitely don’t want to ignore. This is the light that indicates to you that the engine is running hotter than normal, and it might even be overheating. The quicker you respond to this warning light, the less damage your car’s engine is likely to sustain from the heat.

Check Engine Light

The big warning light you should never ignore is of course the check engine light. There are multitudes of reasons the check engine light might be on, ranging from the engine being about to keel over to the smallest issues with the gas in the tank. Avoiding this light because it seems like a scary, expensive repair only guarantees that you’re making the problem bigger.
