Four Reasons You Really Do Need to Balance Your Tires

Lots of car owners want to believe that balancing tires is an optional service that doesn’t really need to be done at all. Allman’s Automotive wants you to know that tire balancing isn’t something that service shops made up. It’s a necessary service and odds are that getting your tires balanced when needed could help them to last longer.

Uneven Tread Wear Is a Problem

As you drive and as you wear out your tires, that wearing doesn’t always happen evenly. Uneven tire wear causes even more imbalance, which contributes to even more uneven wearing. Over time, and if you don’t correct the balance issue, that can shorten the lifespan of your tires by quite a bit.

Damage Because of Wear and Tear

The lifespan of your tires gets shortened is that they’re getting damaged more and more as you drive. Road debris, potholes, and all sorts of other factors create more damage in certain areas. That relates to uneven tread wear, but it can also mean that you end up with chunks of tire that end up scraped or that end up chewed up by pavement and all of those other factors.

Vibrations While Driving

One of the symptoms of unbalanced tires is that you’re more likely to experience vibrations or wobbles while you’re driving. This happens because the wheels aren’t rolling evenly on the road. This problem can be worse as you increase your speeds, which can be a factor in how the car handles at higher speeds.

New Tires Aren’t Perfect

You might be thinking that these other reasons make sense, so why should you get new tires balanced if they haven’t faced those challenges yet? New tires look fantastic, but they do have small imperfections and asymmetry that you can’t see with the naked eye. When you get your new tires balanced, that ensures that they’re going to be starting out their time on your car in the best position possible. Properly weighted brand-new tires are more likely to wear evenly and to last for a longer period of time, especially if you keep up with rotation, balancing, and proper inflation.

If some of these signs are familiar, you might need your tires balanced. Contact us at Allman’s Automotive in Groveland, MA and we can set up an appointment for you. We’ll be able to balance your tires, rotate them if needed, and let you know if we see anything unsafe.
