Four Things You Can Still Do Now to Winterize Your Car

If you’re concerned that you might have missed your chance to get your car ready for winter, you may have more time than you realize. It’s never really too late to protect your car and your passengers from what can happen on winter roads. These tips from Allman’s Automotive can help.

Swap Out the Oil

If it’s close to time for you to get your car’s oil changed, go ahead and do it now. In fact, you might want to consider whether a synthetic blend or even full synthetic oil might be a good idea. This is going to help protect your car’s engine better against the demands of cold weather driving. You also know for sure you won’t have to worry about it again until after the coldest part of winter is over.

Check Your Car’s Antifreeze

The other really important fluid right now is your car’s antifreeze. If you’ve ever topped it up with plain water or you haven’t checked your antifreeze recently, now is the time to do so. You can also get your antifreeze tested to make sure that it’s up for the job it has to do. Old or weak antifreeze needs to be flushed and refilled with fresh antifreeze.

Get the Battery Tested

Without a working battery, you’re in for real problems. And cold takes a huge toll on your car’s battery. Get your battery tested and see if any issues can be corrected with a solid charge. If not, it might be time for a new battery. It’s always better to know that when you’re able to have it swapped out easily in a shop rather than waiting for help on the side of the road.

Make Sure You’re Ready for Precipitation

There’s nothing like winter precipitation. It ranges from rain all the way through to ice and snow, with some interesting combinations in between. Check your windshield wipers, because they’ll have to be up to the job. You may also want to make sure that you’ve got your doors and door locks prepped for standing up to winter precipitation. The last thing you want is to find your doors frozen shut one morning when you’re in a hurry.
